SEGA “weren’t too happy” with Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric

SEGA let out an early E3 2015 surprise by announcing Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, especially considering the catastrophic reception that Rise of Lyric and Shattered Crystal were met with last year.

But, out of their imperfection, Sonic Boom’s animated series has proved particularly popular. It’s understandable, then, that SEGA aren’t yet prepared to turn their back on the new brand, although have shared that they “weren’t too happy” with the resulting bug-ridden game that they released on Wii U.

With Shattered Crystal being seen as “the stronger of the two,” SEGA have continued their partnership with Sanzaru Games to deliver another Nintendo 3DS exclusive in Fire & Ice.

“We weren’t too happy about the Wii U [version]; we totally feel the 3DS was the stronger of the two. So [Fire & Ice] is 3DS-only,” SEGA producer Omar Woodley confessed to GameSpot.

“We learned a lot from all the reviews, from our events with consumers, from all the fans, and we took a lot of those comments to heart. So we went back to the drawing board and worked on a new game, with [developer] Sanzaru Games – Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice.”

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice will launch exclusively for Nintendo 3DS in Europe and North America this winter.
