The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver will see release on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console service.

That news came in the Pokémon Direct earlier, coming after the success that Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Yellow saw on the service last year.

Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver were first released for the Game Boy Color in Japan on 21st November 1999, and are the second set of games in the Pokémon series.

The Virtual Console versions are being recreated as they appeared on the Game Boy Color, with both to be compatible with the wireless communication features on the Nintendo 3DS – introducing support for Link Trades and Link Battles between each version on the handheld.

They will also be compatible with the Time Capsule function, that will let players Link Trade Pokémon between the Virtual Console versions of Pokémon Gold or Pokémon Silver and the Virtual Console versions of Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, or Pokémon Yellow in Pokémon Centers within the games, as well as being compatible with Pokémon Bank.

Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver will release on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console service worldwide on September 22nd.
