GameStop Expect Nintendo Switch Stock Shortages All Year

It has become Nintendo’s fastest-selling console across multiple regions, leading to GameStop suggesting “that it could possibly eclipse the Wii.”

Even with rumblings that Nintendo has doubled production in response to demand, any stock that the specialist retailer receives is sold “within hours.” Their concern is that Nintendo Switch will suffer stock shortages for the remainder of the year.

“The demand is incredibly strong for this,” GameStop chief operating officer Tony Bartel shared on a post-earnings conference call. “As soon as we get any in our stores, it’s out within hours. We anticipate we’re going to be chasing supply this entire year.”

GameStop believe that Nintendo Switch will succeed where Wii U had failed, in that Nintendo has more high-quality games releasing in the console’s first year and stronger third-party support – neither of which were the case with its predecessor.
