Nintendo Switch production will soon double in reaction to a strong demand for the console worldwide.

The Wall Street Journal reports that production plans in the new fiscal year will increase, with the suggestion that the pace in sales will soon match that achieved with the Wii.

In multiple regions the console was hailed as having “sold more in its launch weekend than any other Nintendo hardware in history,” but Nintendo has yet to provide a specific tally.

The company involved with Nintendo Switch manufacture had been initially been given a plan to produce eight million units in the fiscal year that starts in April 2017, but it is understood that this has been increased to 16 million or more.

It is, therefore, clear that Nintendo has confidence in being able to maintain the console’s sales momentum, and believes that they can sell more than 10 million units in the first year – outpacing analyst expectations.
