Aonuma discusses The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma took his turn in the Developer Direct chair, discussing Nintendo’s remaster The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

He discusses improvements to the game’s environment and implementation of Off-TV Play on the Wii U GamePad – making use of touch screen controls for using the Wind Waker, and gyroscope for looking around you.

Players can now speed up their ship too, quickening navigation of the game’s vast overworld.

“On the GameCube, the previous version, it took some time to load the ocean data because it was so vast,” Aonuma explains. “So, if the ship had gone too fast, it would have sailed to the end of the ocean and fallen off!”

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will release exclusively for Wii U in October.
