2K and Saber Interactive have confirmed a release date for WWE 2K Battlegrounds on Nintendo Switch.

Similar to the NBA 2K Playgrounds games, this promises players “a completely new WWE gaming experience” that looks to deliver “arcade-style action and over-the-top Superstar designs, environments and moves.”

With an emphasis on “social pick-up-and-play fun,” there will be more than enough depth for those that want to explore it.

There will be more than 70 WWE Superstars and Legends at launch including Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Asuka, Daniel Bryan, Kofi Kingston, Randy Orton, Andre the Giant, Undertaker, Mankind, Shawn Michaels, Yokozuna and Sgt. Slaughter, with more to be released in the future.

With Campaign, Exhibition, King of the Battleground and Online modes, you will brawl in eight Battlegrounds that come packed with interactive elements and outrageous melee weapons that you can use to defeat your opponents – with WWE commentators Mauro Ranallo and Jerry “The King” Lawler providing play-by-play commentary.

“We know WWE fans and gamers enjoy a wide variety of experiences, and with WWE 2K Battlegrounds, we’re presenting a whole new dimension through arcade-style gameplay that’s completely different than our WWE 2K simulation franchise,” explains 2K vice president of marketing, Chris Snyder. “We look forward to seeing everyone tear it up with friends and family in the Battlegrounds.”

WWE 2K Battlegrounds will release at retail and on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 18th September 2020.

The Standard Edition (£34.99) and Digital Deluxe Edition (£44.99) are now available to pre-order. Those that pre-order the Standard Edition will receive WWE Hall of Famer Edge, whereas those that pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition will also receive Edge, all versions of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock and Ronda Rousey unlocked at the beginning of play and 1100 bonus Golden Bucks in-game currency.
