Ubisoft unveil plans to launch ‘Ubisoft Motion Pictures’ division

Established French videogame publisher Ubisoft has announced plans to launch a new division titled Ubisoft Motion Pictures, Variety report, as the company begins to adapt its game franchises into both films and TV series.

The new Paris-based film division will be headed by Jean-Julien Baronnet, former CEO of Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp, whereas producer Didier Lupfer is in charge of production and development, with Jean de Rivieres, who previously worked in distribution at Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures France, handling marketing and international sales.

Such continual business expansion began in 2007 when the publisher launched Ubisoft Digital Arts, a computer animation studio, which created the ground-breaking 3D title, Avatar: The Videogame. Following this, a year later it then acquired Montreal-based visual effects studio Hybride Technologies.
