Outright Games and Hasbro have teamed up for Transformers: Earthspark – Expedition, which will release on Nintendo Switch “later this year.”

Tessera Studios is behind this “all-new action-packed, single-player Transformers video game,” which promises to introduce you to a new generation of Earthborn Transformers bots.

You will play as the iconic hero Bumblebee, as he drifts, drives and battles his way across a new but familiar world. With the developer looking to “faithfully recreate the environment and feel of the groundbreaking animated series,” you must face a mysterious threat from Bumblebee’s past and stop Dr. Meridian – otherwise known as Mandroid – from recovering missing pieces of ancient technology.

You will be able to explore three massive biomes and complete quests from your Terran allies, fighting against and alongside fan-favourite legacy Transformers bots such as Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Skullcruncher, Nova Storm, and Skywarp.

With multiple playthroughs to reward you with the chance to “unlock a diverse range of upgrades and abilities that allow access to previous locations, and to discover secrets in previously inaccessible areas.”

The developer has also looked to make sure the game has been designed “to be accessible for fans of all ages,” with freedom of exploration, text legibility, control setups and difficulty curves ensuring it is playable by younger gamers. There are also variable difficulty options to “allow the game to be played according to individual ability, alongside mechanics that mitigate frustration in combat, such as directional warnings to help players identify incoming threats more easily.” There is also an assisted driving system to provide an easier control scheme when in vehicle mode and an automatic camera that can be enabled.

“We’re very excited to be working with our long-term licensing partner Hasbro once again on a Transformers title that pushes the boundaries of what video games can bring to a long-standing, hugely popular franchise,” enthuses Outright Games COO Stephanie Malham. “They have done an incredible job modernising and reinventing what Transformers means for a new generation through TV series, blockbuster movies, and working with the best partners on streaming platforms. We’re delighted to bring our expertise to the table and help complement this strategy through the creation of video games for younger fans.”

Transformers: Earthspark – Expedition will release at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch in 2023.
