The Pokémon Company explain why next entries aren’t on Wii U

The Pokémon Company International have discussed the reasoning why the series future has been placed on Nintendo 3DS, rather than Nintendo’s new home console.

With trading, battling and meeting new players key ideals to the game experience, it doesn’t match the philosophy that Game Freak have embodied the series with.

“I can’t speak to the specifics, but traditionally Game Freak has always loved the game to be on a portable device because of the communication, trading, and the experience of taking this adventure with you,” explained J.C. Smith, director of consumer marketing at The Pokémon Company International, to Game Informer.

“That’s why they’ve always prioritised a portable version of the game first. They’ve always liked what you can do in the real world with that.”

Pokémon X and Pokémon Y were announced yesterday for Nintendo 3DS, marking the next significant evolution for the much adored series.
