Dear Villagers and La Moutarde have announced that their turn-based RPG Terra Memoria will release on Nintendo Switch in the coming months.

Pitched as “a cosy exploration game with retro vibes made by RPG lovers,” six friends are sent on a globe-trotting journey after a shortage of magic crystals and ancient robots suddenly awaken.

Packed with “exploration, crafting, building and friendship,” you will have the chance to control each party member as they set out on their own story and bring their unique skills to bear when engaged in turn-based combat.

To save the world, you will need to master the game’s building system to create objects and overcome environmental puzzles. This is described as being “like a map editor at the player’s disposal that can be used to shape the world and rebuild destroyed cities.”

“With Terra Memoria we wanted to create a timeless adventure in the style of a classic RPG that offers more modern twists on the genre, like building, cooking, and crafting,” explains La Moutarde game director François Bertrand. “At the end of the day though, Terra Memoria is an ode to the road trip, with a focus on the bond between friends and found family, as they explore unfamiliar lands together.”

Dear Villagers head of publishing Guillaume Jamet adds: “Terra Memoria is a love letter to classic RPGs with its pixel art and turn-based combat, while the HEXA system and lively soundtrack give it a contemporary flair. It offers a touch of nostalgia that reminds players of their favourite 90’s RPGs, but will also appeal to new generations who have recently gotten into the genre with games like Octopath Traveler, Eiyuden Chronicle, or Suikoden. This mix of retro and modern sensibilities make Terra Memoria feel utterly timeless!”

Terra Memoria will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide “later this year.”
