Tamarak Trail Out On Nintendo Switch This Summer

Versus Evil and Yarrow Games have announced that Tamarak Trail will release on Nintendo Switch in the coming months.

This turn-based deck-building roguelike uses customisable dice instead of cards, in which you will choose one of three characters – the Magician, the Tracker or the Detective – who each has their own unique abilities and traits.

You will be able to use these to craft a strategy that will let you navigate ominous, procedurally-generated paths in which you will encounter events, monsters, campsites, treasure and more.

To battle the nefarious foes that you are confronted with, you will need to be tactical with your dice-building as each face could determine whether you can stand victorious or are left defeated.

Different dice sides can be used to attack directly, apply buffs and debuffs, inflict damage over time, defend yourself or to “flip” them to another side as an opportunity to create a devastating combo. “Dice cores” can be applied to secure passive abilities, and faces can be customised with more abilities after each victory to add new attacks, defences and combinations to take forward into future battles.

The game’s hand-drawn illustrative art direction takes inspiration from the Group of Seven, who are a group of Canadian landscape painters from 1920 to 1933, and illustrator Ivan Bilibin. Whereas its “diverse and horrific bestiary” is influenced by Northern Ontario’s wildlife.

“Tamarak Trail is among the most deep, engrossing deck builders I’ve ever played,” enthuses Versus Evil general manager Steve Escalante. “We think Tamarak Trail has such wide appeal that we’re committed to bringing it to all major platforms right out of the gate. Thankfully you won’t have to wait too long to play it, as it’s launching this summer!”

Tamarak Trail will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in Summer 2023.
