Super Mario Odyssey has been honoured with the 2017 Best of Gamescom award, with the Nintendo Switch exclusive scoring another four awards to sit alongside the overall prize.
That saw a jury assembled from international journalists and YouTubers decide which games were nominated, with the moustachioed Italian plumber’s globe-trotting adventure winning in the Best of Gamescom, Most Wanted Consumer Award, Best Action Game, Best Family Game, and Best Nintendo Switch Game categories.
Within those categories Nintendo was competing against some tough competition, including games such as Call of Duty: WWII, Destiny 2, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2.
Metroid: Samus Returns was also named the Best Mobile/Handheld Game, beating Danger Mouse: The Danger Games.
Metroid: Samus Returns will release exclusively for Nintendo 3DS on September 15th worldwide, with Super Mario Odyssey releasing exclusively for Nintendo Switch on October 27th worldwide.
