XSEED Games and Marvelous Europe have shared the opening movie to their action RPG Silent Hope, which will release on Nintendo Switch in the coming months.
The anime sequence is backed with an energetic original song performed by viral music sensation Kami Wa Saikoro Wo Furanai.
“I’ve loved RPGs ever since I was a child. While party games are about competing with others, RPGs are about taking things at your own pace, whether levelling up your party, enjoying the scenery, or diving deeper into the stories of the main cast and even the supporting characters as well,” enthuses Kami Wa Saikoro Wo Furanai lead singer Shuusaku Yanagita
“When I was chosen to write the theme song for Silent Hope, a brand-new action RPG, my eyes lit up just like I was a kid again. The story and themes of this game, set in a world that has lost the ability to communicate through language, feel like an antithesis to today’s social media society. Words are a double-edged sword–a single, simple word can hurt someone deeply, but on the other hand, a single word can also save someone’s life. We hope that the message of Silent Hope and of our song will reach not only audiences in Japan, but around the world!”
Set in a world without words, a once-peaceful land has been silenced by its former King who stole his citizen’s speech before escaping into an endless chasm known as The Abyss. After these events, the Princess mourned her father’s actions and wept until her crystallised tears entombed her.
Years after these events faded from memory, seven heroes find themselves drawn to the Princess and must brave the depths of The Abyss to find the long-lost King and reunite the royal family to break her free from her luminous prison.
In a gameplay experience that “harkens back to the glory days of isometric dungeon-crawlers while infusing them with a modern approach,” each hero has their own unique weapons, fighting styles and non-combat jobs.
After diving into The Abyss to battle enemies and collect materials, the heroes will return to Base Camp to craft, cook and rest before their next adventure with randomised layouts meaning every excursion will be different.
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:
- Seven Heroes, Seven Unique Fighting Styles: Choose from a motley crew of characters like the well-rounded Wanderer, long-range specialist Archer, or heavy-hitting Warrior to find whose skills suit your playstyle, and embrace new roles and abilities as you gain more experience.
- A Home at the Edge of the World: Find new recipes and materials and return to your Base Camp at the edge of The Abyss, where each character has a unique job. From alchemist to blacksmith to cook, each hero brings something different.
- Engaging Exploration and Dungeon-Crawling: Experience a new layout each time you enter the enigmatic Abyss, keeping you on your toes every moment. Stay on the lookout for Memory Rifts, where greater rewards and challenges await.
- A Vibrant Storybook Aesthetic: With its mournful princess, spellbound kingdom, and everyday heroes, it feels like a fairy tale come to life – right down to the mysteries waiting to be uncovered in the visually stunning underworld.
Silent Hope will release at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 3 October 2023.
