Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi has teased that the Wave Race series could make a return on Nintendo Switch, after implying that a new game may be in development.

“You may see that game again,” Takahashi teased to Fandom at the 2018 British Game Academy Awards, when asked whether Wave Race would finally resurface on Nintendo Switch. “We have been trying to make many games and that may be one of them. I personally love Wave Race!”

The personal watercraft racing series first made a splash on Game Boy in 1992 and had challenged players to race around courses moving between buoys. It then appeared on Nintendo 64 in 1996 with Wave Race 64, and was last seen on GameCube in 2001 with Wave Race: Blue Storm.
