We know that you will need to spend time steadily unlocking the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character roster once the mascot brawler releases, but, it appears that you may be able to use your amiibo as a shortcut.
Best Buy in Canada has made such claim on their product listings for the Ridley, Wolf and Inkling amiibo, where they write, for example: “Simply tap the amiibo accessory to the NFC touchpoint on your game system to unlock this trouble-making resident of the city of Inkopolis.”
What throws some questions about what they have written is that the product listings still refer to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, in that the “amiibo figure stores your playing data so your character is completely unique to your style of play” with references to the Wii U GamePad and Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
But, that said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Figure Players make a return in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. These were created once you scanned an amiibo, letting that CPU-controlled character fight with or against you to raise their level, learn from how you play and to strengthen their abilities.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide on December 7th.
