Alongside the Pokémon Game Show taking place in Japan, rumblings have emerged regarding the direction of the series.

We’ve already learned of Pokémon: The Origin, a new anime series that celebrates the original Red and Blue Game Boy releases, though something more exciting is seemingly around the corner.

Within an official trailer that sees Pikachu wander through the history of the series (see below) a mysterious HD image is teased at its conclusion. It sees Mega Lucario and Mega Blaziken standing opposite each other in the centre of a desolate Japanese high street, sparking speculation that Nintendo will soon announce the development of game in the ilk of Colosseum or Battle Revolution off the back of the hotly anticipated arrival of Pokémon X and Y.

We’re suspicious for now, but it’s certainly whet our appetite for more information.

  1. In light of the recent changes that have been made with X and Y, perhaps Nintendo will shake things up further by actually making full fledged pokemon RPG for Wii U

    • Red and Blue in the west, Red and Green in Japan. Mentioning Blue is more recognised by our readers.
