Apogee Entertainment, New Blood Interactive and Nightdive Studios have confirmed that the console launch for Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition has been delayed until “later this year.”

Promised to be “more than a faithful recreation of the highly influential, genre-defining shooter,” Nightdive Studios has used its proprietary KEX engine to build the game with its original source code. That has allowed them to deliver “a perfect mix of past and present with 60+ frames-per-second gameplay, classic pixelated artwork upscaled to 4K resolution, increased field-of-view, cloud saves, achievements, and more.”

You will join an elite squad of special forces known as H.U.N.T. and must investigate mysterious activity off the California coast in an effort to unravel the mystery of the Triad cult. With five operatives to choose from, you can play through five separate campaigns with new episodes, expansion packs and never-before-seen content from previously-lost beta builds.

Wielding over-the-top weaponry like dual-wield pistols, heat-seeker missiles and earth-shaking Firebombs, you can even take the fight online with up to 11 players – whether that be in the one-versus-ten in Hunter mode or the first-ever capture-the-flag mode in first-person shooter history in Capture the Triad mode.

Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide “later this year.”
