Playtonic Games has revealed more on Rextro’s Radical Arcade in Yooka-Laylee, a place where you can take on up to four players in competitive local multiplayer.

There are eight different games to compete in, like arena brawler Glaciators, old-school racer Kartos Karting and Jobstacle Course, which the developer suggests could destroy friendships. Each are accompanied with retro-tastic tunes penned by Steve Burke, who previously composes for games such as Kameo: Elements of Power and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.

“Playable in both single-player mode or with up to four players in local multiplayer, these 8 unique competitive games are designed to channel the heyday of couch multiplayer, when ‘lag’ meant forgetting what time of day it was when your mates eventually switched off and stumbled home,” Playtonic explained in an update.

The game will also allow a second player to “co-star” in the main adventure, where they can take control of the Bee Team to help grab quills, collect and store butterflies, and stop traps.

Yooka-Laylee was in development for Wii U, but that was cancelled after the team was unable to overcome “unforeseen technical issues.” They added that they were “working very closely with Nintendo to look to bring Yooka-Laylee to the upcoming Nintendo Switch,” but we haven’t heard more since then.
