Pokémon X & Y’s Xerneas set for Super Smash Bros. Wii U

In one of the more intriguing teases for next year’s Super Smash Bros., creator Masahiro Sakurai has revealed that legendary Pokémon Xerneas will make an appearance.

Yet is is unknown as to what extent the Pokémon X exclusive’s role will be, with Xerneas merely appearing over the shoulder of an unaware Pikachu. Whether it’ll be an available support character through use of the Poké Ball item, or if the Pokémon Trainer character who first appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl will return, is unclear.

The reveal formed part of Sakurai’s daily screenshots that he is sharing through Miiverse whilst development is ongoing, his accompanying comment reading, “We have absolutely nothing to announce today regarding Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Really!”
