The Pokémon Company have announced that they will commemorate the launch of Pokémon X and Y with a new animated series that celebrates where the phenomenon began.

Taking inspiration from the original Pokémon Red and Green (Blue in the west) titles on Game Boy, Pokémon: The Origin will follow the adventures of new trainer Red and his rival Green having been gifted their Pokémon from Professor Oak. On their journey they’ll be troubled by Team Rocket, and gym leader Brock will also have a part to play in the journey to become Pokémon Masters.

So far, we know that the series will air on TV Tokyo from October 2nd, although there’s no confirmation as to whether it will be similarly shown in the west.
