Nintendo has announced that Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon have sold more than 14.69 million copies worldwide, with their latest total having been calculated up until 31st December 2016.

It was Pokémon GO that was unsurprisingly highlighted as having helped the Nintendo 3DS exclusives achieve such impressive sales but also saw hardware sales grow, particularly outside of Japan.

Within the last nine months, 6.45 million units have been sold which works out at a 10 percent increase on a year-on-year basis, with software sales reaching 46.78 million units – an even more notable 20 percent increase year-on-year.

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are now the third best-selling Nintendo 3DS games, narrowly behind Mario Kart 7 which sits at 14.82 million copies and Pokémon X and Pokémon Y which have sold 16.06 million copies.
