The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Legends Z-A is in development for Nintendo Switch.

Game Freak is behind this project, which was teased with a confidential “Urban Redevelopment Plan” for Lumiose City from Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.

Created to share “a vision of beautiful coexistence between people and Pokémon,” the plans came to life to show the daily activities of the city’s inhabitants – both human and Pokémon alike.

That is exactly how The Pokémon Company has teased the upcoming game in its press release, writing: “An exciting new adventure awaits players within Lumiose City, where an urban redevelopment plan is underway to shape the city into a place that belongs to both people and Pokémon.”

The early trailer, which lacked any actual gameplay footage, closed with a tease that Mega Evolution – a battle mechanic introduced in the Nintendo 3DS games – will make a return.

This game will likely look to build on the successes that the team had achieved with Pokémon Legends Arceus, in which its goal was to “deliver an experience infused with new action and RPG elements that go beyond the framework established thus far, while honouring the core gameplay of past Pokémon titles.”

Pokémon Legends Z-A will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch, receiving a simultaneous worldwide release in 2025.
