Niantic has announced that Pokémon GO will discontinue support for devices on iOS 9 after Monday 12th November 2018, encouraging players to upgrade their operating system to iOS 10 or above to continue playing.

Those on Android or iOS 10 or above already have nothing to worry about, but, if you are unsure, you can check which iOS version is installed (Settings > General > About) on your device.

“iOS 9 was initially released in 2015. In the time since the release, there have been some major improvements to the iOS operating systems,” Niantic explain.

“By removing support for iOS 9, we are able to streamline our development process and focus resources on supporting newer operating systems and technologies.

“A vast majority of Apple users have migrated to iOS 10 and above. As players migrate from older operating system versions to newer ones, we periodically update our supported device requirements to focus on the devices our player base use.”
