Blizzard Entertainment has revealed that Overwatch 2 will release on Nintendo Switch, news that was shared at BlizzCon 2019.

The “supercharged sequel” to their team-based shooter will let you play action-packed cooperative Story Missions, in an effort to present the chance for you to “explore the Overwatch universe firsthand.”

Winston, Tracer, and other members of the original Overwatch will team up with a new generation of heroes, fighting in “intense, high-stakes four-player missions” to defend the world from the omnic forces of Null Sector.

Then, in the Hero Missions mode, the Overwatch team must defend cities against robot invasions, take on elite Talon agents, and battle the villainous forces laying siege to the world.

In this mode, you can level up your favourite heroes while earning powerful customisation options that “supercharge” your abilities in co-op play – with examples such as “altering Reinhardt’s Fire Strike to ignite nearby enemies or modifying Tracer’s Pulse Bomb to cause a devastating chain reaction.”

Your existing accomplishments, loot collections, and the current complete Overwatch roster and carried forward from the original game.

With “significant engine upgrades” supporting larger maps in co-op play and delivering visual enhancements, you can look forward to new playable heroes and a a new Push map type – where two teams compete to make a robot.

The developer has also confirmed that “current Overwatch players will battle side-by-side with Overwatch 2 players in PvP multiplayer,” as well as being “able to play Overwatch 2 heroes and maps” to retain the core PvP experience.

“With Overwatch 2, we’re building the cooperative, narrative-driven game experience that players have been asking for since the original – and that we’ve wanted to make for a long time,” explains Blizzard Entertainment president J. Allen Brack.

“We’re looking forward to telling the next chapter of this epic story in-game, and we’re excited to give players a whole-new kind of co-op experience built around progressing and customizing their favorite heroes—all while providing even more of everything they love about Overwatch today.”
