Plaion and Nine Dots Studio have announced that Outward Definitive Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch.

The developer has worked with SneakyBox to port the open-world fantasy role-playing game to the portable home console. The “Definitive Edition” contains the base game with two downloadable content packs, Three Brothers and The Soroboreans.

Set in the world of Aurai, you play as an ordinary adventurer who must defend themselves against threatening creatures, while braving hazardous environmental conditions, and keeping healthy and hydrated. That journey will take you through cities and dangerous hidden dungeons crawling with formidable enemies.

“Getting Outward onto the Switch was always a dream for us,” explains Nine Dots Studio CEO and creative director Guillaume Boucher-Vidal. “I’ll be quite honest, I had my doubts that a Switch version was even possible, but we did it.

“Outward is a big game that was made in such a weird context and has some very specific technical limitations. The team at SneakyBox really pulled a rabbit out of the hat with this port. I’m happy that there will be one more way to play our game, and with devices like the Steam Deck and the Nintendo Switch, it’s quite fitting that our game is now travel-friendly.”

The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:

  • Survive in the wilds as you explore the land
  • Play solo or cooperatively locally or online
  • Ritualistic, step-by-step approach to spellcasting
  • Constant auto-saving means you must live with your decisions
  • Encounter dynamic defeat scenarios
  • A unique experience with every playthrough

Outward Definitive Edition will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in 2024.
