Nintendo has confirmed that, once again, they will not host “a large-scale press conference” at E3 2017.
It was Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima that had announced the news, promising that Nintendo of America would share more on their plans for the event in the coming weeks.
“During this period we will achieve strong results through three major initiatives: establishing Nintendo Switch, maintaining Nintendo 3DS momentum and continuing our smart device business. We will also push forward on our goal to expand the number of people who have access to Nintendo IP,” Kimishima shared at Nintendo’s financial results briefing.
“Finally, the video game tradeshow E3 will be held in Los Angeles this June. Again this year, we will not be hosting a large-scale press conference for institutional investors, analysts and the media. Nintendo of America will present further information on our plans at a later date.”
The news won’t come as a particular surprise, given that Nintendo hasn’t held a traditional press conference since E3 2012. Their trend has been to approach the event differently each year, although the constants have been broadcasting a Nintendo Digital Event and extensive Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3 coverage.
We know that Nintendo are preparing to go big on Super Mario Odyssey, and will hold a pre-release, Splatoon 2 exhibition tournament.
