Nintendo have moved to immediately deny rumours that their next “dedicated game platform,” codenamed NX, will have an Android-based operating system.
“There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX,” a Nintendo spokesman stated to the Wall Street Journal, responding to claims made by Japanese newspaper Nikkei in a report yesterday.
Nintendo won’t be sharing any more about NX until 2016, although have so far described it as a “new hardware system with a brand-new concept” that will look to “surprise players.” The company are also investigating removing region-lock, which has long been a criticism with Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
