The Joy-Con are an integral part of the Nintendo Switch’s core concept in letting players change between three different play modes depending on the situation. But, that hasn’t stopped Nintendo from thinking about what they can change.
That news came from Nintendo entertainment planning and development division general manager Shinya Takahashi, who acknowledged the Joy-Con as the portable home console’s greatest strength before mentioning that the controllers present the potential for new colours and designs.
“One of the great strengths of the Nintendo Switch is that though you can play it as a console, you can also separate these two controllers from the hardware,” Takahashi recapped to IGN.
“This gives us a lot of possibilities that we could consider for the future in terms of what you could attach. I think that that would be a really good time for us to think about some very different colours or designs applied to [Joy-Con]. That might be interesting.”
Fans have already started to customise their own Joy-Con, which is something that Takahashi has been glad to see: “There’s a lot of joy to be had from handmaking something yourself or having all of those customizable possibilities, and we absolutely embrace that. We love to see that.”
