Nintendo has today confirmed that, from August 11th, the the Nintendo 3DS will receive a worldwide price drop.
This will bring the price in Japan to ¥15,000, a fall of 40%, whereas Nintendo of America have confirmed that from August 12th the new price will be $169.99, a drop of a third. Nintendo of Europe have also confirmed a price drop that will be made before September, and will see a cut of an estimated third.
Nintendo’s global president Satoru Iwata explained that such a move was to speed the market penetration of the handheld in time for key released at winter – including the renamed Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7.
“So that we will be able to create momentum for Nintendo 3DS and accelerate its market penetration toward the year-end sales season, when the lineup for the applicable software shall be enriched, the Company has decided to make this markdown,” Iwata explained.
