Nintendo have confirmed that the Nintendo 3DS has achieved sales of over 17.13 million units worldwide

Such figure covers sales made until the end of March 2012, and signifies that, despite initial woes, it is truly back on track.

Nintendo expect that sales throughout the next year will improve, marking a return to profitability during the current financial year.

They will improve popularity of “evergreen” titles such as Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7, with a new Brain Age, New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Animal Crossing 3D all releasing in Japan by the end of the year.

Such margins will be aided by the impending launch of the Wii U, which will arrive at retail across Japan, North America and Europe by the end of the calendar year.
