Koei Tecmo and GUST Studios have released a new trailer for Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness and the Secret Hideout that demonstrates the upcoming role-playing game’s revamped battle system.
You will be able to obtain special bottles that, when combined with other items using the synthesis system, will create new gathering locations where you can collect raw materials.
Based on the ingredients that are used in the process, the environment can dramatically change. Plant Essence, for example, can create a fantastical forest area, whereas a Bomb will create a dangerous volcanic field.
Once created, a unique four-character password can be used to share the area with friends or on social media – letting others explore the same area.
However, creatures and enemies will inhabit these areas. To defeat them, you will fight them using the real-time tactical battle system. This now sees battles progress even while you select character actions.
Using the Quick Actions technique to perform skills, critical attacks, or to use abilities outside of your turn will drain your Action Points. These are shared between all party members, and it’s important to use them to gain the upper hand.
As the Action Point gauge is filled, you can increase your in-battle level. This is referred to as the Tactics Level, and, the higher the level that is gained, the more powerful the attacks that you can use – as well as letting you use special combos.
You will also be able to give Action Orders to other party members, asking them to perform specific actions like “perform a physical attack.” If the command is followed, the character that gave it will perform a follow-up attack with a powerful skill which won’t consume any Action Points.
Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness and the Secret Hideout will start an all-new storyline arc in the Atelier series and will follow teenage tomboy Ryza who dreams of escaping her mundane village lifestyle with her band of mischievous friends.
As they explore a forbidden island in search of adventure, they discover an elderly magician who changes their lives forever. He teaches Ryza the enchanting ways of alchemy, which soon results in her setting out on a quest to save her hometown from a mysterious and deadly darkness that lurks beneath the surface.
With more realistic shadows to help showcase the game’s vibrant environments, a newly evolved synthesis program will also be introduced to help players better understand what they’re concocting visually.
Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness and the Secret Hideout will release for Nintendo Switch in North America on October 29th, and in Europe on November 1st.
