Microsoft and Sony will break the traditional console cycle by releasing improved hardware in Project Scorpio and PlayStation 4 ‘Neo.’ But, one company whose near future remains shrouded in secrecy is Nintendo.

We know that Nintendo NX, their undisclosed “dedicated game platform,” will release worldwide in March 2017. But, some nine months until it arrives, we’re still left in the dark as to precisely what it is.

Now Shigeru Miyamoto has weighed in, suggesting that if Nintendo’s console was simply “following advancements in technology,” we would have heard more about it by now. Instead, it appears that the company is looking to make sure competitors don’t copy their idea.

“In terms of NX, there’s an idea that we’re working on,” Miyamoto shared with Associated Press. “That’s why we can’t share anything at this point, and I don’t want to comment on the other companies. If it was just a matter of following advancements in technology, things would be coming out a lot quicker.”
