Nintendo have confirmed that Mario Kart 8 will “be released globally in May,” their hope that the arrival of such a key title won’t be a one-off event so that they can “create huge momentum” behind Wii U.

Announced at E3 2013, we’ve since learned that there will be 12-player multiplayer, the introduction of Baby Mario, Luigi and Peach, and plans for Mario Kart TV where players can watch replay data.

UK retailers have recently pointed to the Wii U exclusive as where they have placed their hopes for a turning point for the console, having so far failed to maintain the sales momentum that Nintendo have desperately sought.
