Struck by rumours that he will depart Konami after Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s launch, Hideo Kojima has today been allowed to speak out in response to the allegation.

“I want to reassure fans that I am 100% involved and will continue working on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain,” Kojima comments, in a joint statement distributed by Konami. “I’m determined to make it the greatest game I’ve directed to date. Don’t miss it!”

It’s a brief statement, and doesn’t deny that Kojima will be eventually departing the Japanese publisher. Earlier this week, a source had suggested to GameSpot that there had been a “fallout” between Kojima Productions and Konami, resulting in a restriction in communications with senior staff denied access to “corporate internet, emails and phone.”

“After we finish MGSV, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami,” the anonymous source explained. “They said their contract ends in December.”

Konami have today pledged that they “will continue to develop and distribute top-quality content in the Metal Gears series following Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain,” and have begun interviewing staff to lead development.
