Abylight Studios and Heart Machine have announced that Hyper Light Drifter will release on Nintendo Switch, an action-adventure RPG that takes inspiration from 16-bit classics with modernised mechanics and designs on a grander scale.

The developer is working closely with Yoyo Games, who created the GameMaker Studio 2 engine that was used to make the game, to port it to Nintendo Switch.

Echoes of a dark and violent past resonate throughout a savage land, steeped in treasure and blood. Drifters in this world are the collectors of forgotten knowledge, lost technologies, and broken histories.

You play as a Drifter that is haunted by an insatiable illness, that travels further into the lands of Buried Time in the hopes that he can discover a way to quiet the vicious disease. That inspiration has been driven by the game’s creator, Alex Preston, who also suffers from congenital heart disease.

Hyper Light Drifter will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in Summer 2018.
