The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has issued a rating for Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD on Nintendo Switch, suggesting that Nintendo is readying the spooky quest for launch on the portable home console.

“This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of Luigi as he retrieves mysterious artifacts,” the ESRB rating reads. “Players search haunted houses while using a flashlight and vacuum pack to suck up objects and capture ghosts. Some ghosts can punch Luigi, causing him to cry out, blink, and collapse to the ground. Other sequences allow players to shoot seeds at mice and launch cartoony bombs at enemy creatures.”

Revealed in September’s Nintendo Direct, this spooky adventure was originally released for the Nintendo 3DS but has now been “visually enhanced” in high definition for the portable home console.

The Dark Moon that hangs over Evershade Valley appears to have a calming effect on the ghosts that reside there. The quirky Professor E. Gadd has been studying the friendly spirits, but, when the Dark Moon suddenly breaks into pieces that are scattered across several haunted mansions, the once-friendly ghosts become hostile.

It is up to Luigi to summon his courage to brave the haunted mansions to restore the Dark Moon to its rightful place in the sky. That will see him use the Poltergust 5000, a superpowered ghost-hunting tool that can suck up ghosts and blow air as he searches every nook and cranny of the dust-ridden buildings.

The game will also include the ScareScraper multiplayer mode, which, whether locally or online, lets up to four players team up as ghost hunters to take on the terrifying tower’s challenges.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in Summer 2024.
