Eiji Aonuma laughs in response to Majora’s Mask remake question

“Please write that I laughed,” Eiji Aonuma asks, responding to IGN‘s question as to whether Nintendo 64 classic The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask would ever be remade.

“It’s really up to [fans]. If they want to interpret my laughter as, ‘yeah, we’re making it’ or ‘no, we’re not,’ I guess that’s really up to them,” he continued. “Don’t make it sound like I laughed because I was troubled or inconvenienced or put out. I don’t want them to read anything into it. But if you want to say that I laughed, I think that would be a good answer.”

After Nintendo enlisted Grezzo to port The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D to 3DS, many had been hopeful that the game’s sequel may be equally treated to a remake – something that Aonuma stated “wouldn’t be an utter possibility.”

Having wrapped up The Wind Waker HD, finalising work on A Link Between Worlds, and making progress on the new Zelda Wii U, it may be that Nintendo’s resources are stretched too thinly. So, Grezzo?

Nintendo was originally deciding whether to do a Majora’s Mask or Link to the Past remake. The head designer decided that he wanted to make his own game and not a remake. Hence Link between Worlds coming in a couple months.
