Castlevania producer Dave Cox departs Konami after 17 years
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow producer Dave Cox has announced that he has departed Konami after seventeen years with the company to “explore new opportunities.”
Having joined the company in 1997 as a UK product manager, he was eventually given the opportunity to lead the development of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. After critical and commercial success, this was followed by initial 3DS exclusive Mirror of Fate and a console sequel that was met with a lacklustre reception.
“After seventeen years I have decided to leave Konami to explore new opportunities. Today is my final day with the company,” Cox wrote on Twitter. “I joined the company in 1997 as a UK product manager and my first title to manage was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I’m proud to say I was responsible for the limited edition released in Europe which included the soundtrack and the Ayami Kojima Artbook!”
He continued, “I went on and handled Konami’s biggest titles – Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Pro Evolution Soccer, Suikoden, Dancing Stage and many more. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would be given the opportunity to lead the development of a Castlevania. I never imagined it would become the best-selling Castlevania game in the series history either. I want to thank Konami for the opportunity and all those people who supported me and the team on our journey.
“So what’s next? Something I’ve wanted to do for a long time… Gonna take a break and then tell you all about it!”
