Different Tales and Jaspel have announced that their inventory management roguelike Backpack Hero is out now on Nintendo Switch.

Delivering a “compelling twist on the standard deck-building roguelike,” success in combat encounters isn’t about what you carry but how your items are organised in your backpack.

There are five heroes to choose from, and each has unique items and abilities that “completely change the way you play.” The robot CR-8 lets you program commands in your backpack “Factorio-style,” whereas Pochette carries pets to give the experience “a Pokémon-esque twist.”

There are hundreds of rare items for you to discover and arrange into powerful combinations, battling against more than 40 enemy types and colourful characters to meet on your procedurally generated adventures.

The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:

  • Collect hundreds of rare items. Each item has unique effects and can be good in the right arrangement!
  • Battle with over 40+ enemies. Enemies have varied attacks. Learn their attack patterns and vanquish your foes! Endless dungeons to explore!
  • Randomly generated levels have unique layouts, interesting events, and unpredictable challenges.
  • There’s more to Backpack Hero than just organizing your backpack. You explore ancient dungeons, caves, swamps, and more! Don’t get lost!
  • Many animals live in the dark dungeons beneath the world. You will encounter colourful friends and deadly foes!

Backpack Hero is now available digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
