Bigmode has confirmed a release date for ANIMAL WELL on Nintendo Switch, “an action-platform-exploration game that constantly defies categorisation.”
After hatching from your flower, you will spelunk through its beautiful and sometimes haunting world – pitched as “a pixelated wonder rendered in intricate audio and visual detail.”
You will encounter lively creatures both small and large as well as helpful and ominous, in your efforts to discover unconventional upgrades and unravel the well’s secrets in an “experience that can make you laugh in fear, surprise, or delight.”
“I started development on ANIMAL WELL seven years ago and spent the majority of my evenings and weekends since that time working on it,” explains developer Billy Basso. “I quit my day job about two years ago to finish the game and couldn’t be prouder of how the game turned out. This has been my passion for a long time, and I’m so excited to finally share it with the world.”
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:
- Dense atmospheric puzzle box world with tons of secrets
- Nonlinear—explore and collect items in whatever order you choose
- Enemies, environment, and items interact in surprising and systemic ways
- All items have multiple uses
- The main game is just the beginning. Players will be discovering hidden puzzles for years
ANIMAL WELL will be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 9 May 2024.
