30XX Release Date Takes Aim

Batterystaple Games has confirmed a release date for 30XX, which is coming to Nintendo Switch.

This sequel to 20XX continues to take inspiration from classic Mega Man titles but has been “infused with modern design” to build upon the “mega-roguelite platformer” foundation of the original game.

Whether playing the classic roguelite mode or the perma-death-free Mega Mode in single-player or local/online co-op, you will have to overcome 10 randomly generated levels that are “filled with nostalgic chiptunes, behemoth bosses and thematic technological terrors.”

20XX heroes Nina and Ace return, with the chance for you to upgrade Ace’s laser sword or Nina’s buster cannon with Techniques and Augments that – whether hidden throughout each stage or bought by saving up enough scrap from defeated foes.

You will be able to close the distance between Ace and his enemies with the Dolomite Link grapplewhip or channel his energy to transform his blade into the crushing Lara energy hammer. Whereas Nina’s Scatterblast can be used to perform a widespread attack to smackdown robo-baddies or to take out aerial enemies with the Vertibeam.

There is also a Maker Mode – from the mind behind the Mega Man Maker fan project – which lets you design hand-made section pieces or entire levels to share with the community.

“The past two years of Early Access have flown by for the team, and we can’t wait to see the community’s reaction to the wild action and dark mystery of our full release,” said Batterystaple Games founder, Chris King. “We’re endlessly thankful to our Early Access community for helping us make 30XX into a game the team’s really proud of. When we enter v1.0 on PC and get to bring the action to Nintendo Switch this August, we look forward to watching our community dash towards all of 30XX’s Nier Automata-inspired hidden secret endings!”

The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:

  • Pulse-pounding action, precise platforming, and beautiful spritework
  • Characters with fully distinct playstyles – master Ace’s swift, combo-friendly Techniques and Nina’s intricate Power Fusion system for even more replayability
  • A fresh new set of levels, items, and powers every time you play – 30XX is never the same game twice!
  • Roguelike-style progression that lets you tune the game’s systems and difficulty as you play, even after you win
  • A robust level editor – the same tools the developers use! – that lets you build single level chunks or entire custom campaigns
  • Local and online multiplayer, so you can enjoy 30XX with a friend

30XX will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 9 August 2023.
