Nintendo has announced that Fortnite has been downloaded more than 2 million times on Nintendo Switch in under 24 hours, showing a strong reaction to the free-to-play game’s sudden arrival on the portable home console.

“Fortnite’s launch went extremely well — we had more than 2 million downloads in less than 24 hours,” Nintendo of America president and chief operating officer Reggie Fils-Aime told Polygon.

“I think that speaks to the power of the franchise, the engagement of our players and the resonance of being able to play it anytime, anywhere.”

You can download the game for free on the Nintendo eShop and squad up with your friends in the same room or online around the world.

It is the same globally popular game that players will know from PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Mac and mobile, delivering the same gameplay, map, content and weekly updates.

Fortnite is now available as a free download on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
