Ryu from the Street Fighter series has arrived in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & Nintendo 3DS, seeking powerful opponents to shoryuken to smithereens.

Developed to be similar to his appearance in Street Fighter II, he shifts away from a game that utilised six buttons to one that largely revolves around just two. Still, there are a wide range of moves available for Ryu to pummel the opposition, with light, medium and heavy versions depending on how long the button is held.

Well trained Street Fighter fans will also note specific moves which have been carried across, whether that be Collarbone Breaker, Joudan Sokutogeri, Shoryuken or Hadoken – which can be activated with their normal commands for extra power.

Ryu is the first fighter in Super Smash Bros. to have two Final Smash attacks, in Shinku Hadoken and Shin Shoryuken – whichever being used depending on how close you are to enemies.

Nintendo have also added Suzaku Castle as a playable stage, with players able to blaze out the theme from Ryu’s stage in Street Fighter II in the background.

Ryu and Suzaku Castle are available today priced at £5.39 (€5.99 / $5.99) on either Wii U or Nintendo 3DS, or with both versions bundled together at £6.29 (€6.99 / $6.99).
