As had been teased last week, The Pokémon Company has revealed Zeraora, which will star in Pokémon the Movie: Everyone’s Story.

The new Mythical Pokémon, which is known as the Thunderclap Pokémon, was shown on Japanese children’s variety programme Oha Suta this morning.

It is an Electric-type and has the ability Volt Absorb, which means that whenever it is hit with an Electric-type move in battle its HP is restored by a quarter of its maximum health and the move will have no effect on it.

Zeraora electrifies its claws and uses them to tears its opponents apart, and is said to approach its enemies at the speed of lightning. It will only be made available in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, with no news on when, or how, the distribution event will take place.

“The Mythical Pokémon Zeraora appears like a thunderbolt! This Pokémon creates a powerful magnetic field by emitting strong electric currents from the pads on its hands and feet. It can use this magnetic field to levitate and move through the air at high speed. Its max speed is said to be about the same as that of a lightning strike,” The Pokémon Company explains.

“Unlike most Electric-type Pokémon, it doesn’t have an organ within its body that can produce electricity. However, it is able to gather and store electricity from outside sources, then use it as its own electric energy. When it uses massive amounts of electricity, its fur stands on end all over its body.”

Pokémon the Movie: Everyone’s Story will release in cinemas across Japan on July 13th.
