If you are looking to complete the Gloom-Borne Illness side quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK), then you will need to know the recipe to make Sunny Veggie Porridge. You will learn about the side quest in Enchanted (1945, -970, 0115), the clothing shop Claree runs in Kakariko Village.

When you speak to her, Claree will state that her situation at home is hard right now, and, when pressed, will explain that her grandmother is sick in bed with a strange illness and that her little sister Lasli has volunteered to take care of her.

The situation has prevented Lasli from studying fashion in Hateno Village, but, as she loves their grandmother so much, she has decided to put her dreams on hold. With the treatment for their grandmother’s illness costing so much, they have had to hike up the prices on everything that they have in stock in the clothing shop. However, Claree adds that once their grandmother is healthy again she can set their prices back to normal.

Lasli can be found sitting next to a cooking pot outside a house up the hill from the family’s clothing shop (1908, -1004, 0127). She will explain that her grandmother got too close to the gloom and she’s become sick and bedridden. Porridge is the only thing that she can keep down right now, and she has been trying to mix in ingredients that could help with gloom sickness without success.

To cook Claree and Lasli’s grandmother’s favourite Porridge, you will Hylian rice, fresh milk and wild greens. Lasli suggests that Hylian rice and milk can be purchased from the merchants who travel along the road to the west of Kakariko Village – or – but she has been unable to find the “crucial ingredient” that can fight off gloom sickness.

Hylian rice and fresh milk should be easy enough to find, but it is her reference to “wild greens” that will mystify players without an explanation. Lasli is in fact referring to the general herbs that you can collect throughout your adventure, and the ones that you need for the porridge recipe will be Sundelions. You will have likely already gathered some from your time on the Great Sky Island, unless you’ve already gobbled them down.

What is the Sunny Veggie Porridge Recipe in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

In order to complete the Gloom-Borne Illness side quest, you will need to cook a Sunny Veggie Porridge. The three ingredients that you will require for this are:

  • Fresh Milk: This fresh milk comes from Hateno-bred cows and white goats from all across Hyrule. It’s delicious on its own, but can be used in soups and stews too.
  • Hylian Rice: This grain is a favorite among residents of Kakariko Village. It’s grown in regions with a lot of water and is quite versatile. Used as an ingredient in things like risotto and rice balls.
  • Sundelion: A wild plant that grows in the sun at high altitudes. Soaked in sunlight, its petals can restore health depleted by gloom when used in cooking.

Once you have made a Sunny Veggie Porridge, simply speak to Lasli again and, after smelling its aroma, will ask if she can feed their grandmother with it. Agree, and Nanna will recover from the illness much to the shock of her granddaughters.

This is essentially the game’s tutorial to teach you a recipe that can cure any gloom-related damage that Link sustains from enemies or while exploring the Depths. Your help will see Lasli head to Hateno Village to chase her dream of studying fashion, and Claree will be able to lower Enchanted’s prices back to normal. Lasli will reward you with an Energizing Veggie Porridge before the side quest is marked as completed.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
