You do not start with the paraglider in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK), making the game’s opening Great Sky Island feel strange without it. However, it won’t take long to unlock and we’re here to tell you how.
How to get the Paraglider in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
After skydiving from the Great Sky Island to the surface at the end of the game’s prologue, check in at Lookout Landing (-293, 0137, 0025). You will need to speak to Purah to progress the main quest Crisis at Hyrule Castle, for which your first task will be to speak to Captain Hoz.
He can be found on the First Gatehouse in Hyrule Castle, which is an easy enough trek north from Lookout Landing without any enemies to cause you trouble. Having spoken to Captain Hoz and momentarily spotting Princess Zelda, he will ask you to return to Purah to report back to her about what you have witnessed.
You will then need to make a return trip to Lookout Landing, where, after adding the map to your Purah Pad, she will ask for your help in adding data to it. After you are introduced to the emergency shelter nearby, Josha will help activate Purah’s network of Skyview Towers from which you can catapult yourself into the sky to scan Hyrule’s topography. These are also useful as, once you have interacted with each of them using your Purah Pad, they will become fast travel points that allow you to quickly move around the kingdom.
Purah explains that no one has had the skill – or perhaps stupidity – to use a paraglider to test the Skyview Towers, and it is at this point that she will hand one over to you. Hurrah! To use it, you simply need to press the X Button in midair to “ride the wind and glide through the sky.”
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
