Zelda Series Producer Still Uncertain About Whether Link Should Speak

We’ve spent 30 years adventuring with Link, but the green-clad hero is yet to raise his voice in The Legend of Zelda series.

That doesn’t look like it is set to change any time soon, with series producer Eiji Aonuma sharing his belief that such silence allows the character to portray an “air of proud independence.”

In an interview with GamesMaster magazine he was asked about the possibility, responding: “We’ve had a lot of requests from fans to hear [Link’s] voice, and while in some ways I do feel that it could be good to have a game where he speaks, part of me also feels that that air of proud independence he has because he doesn’t speak is a precious part of the individuality of his character.

“I want to think long and hard about whether changing that would be for the better or not before I make any decision.”

It has been 30 years since The Legend of Zelda first saw release in Japan, with The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, Hyrule Warriors Legends and The Legend of Zelda Wii U to celebrate the occasion.
