The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, heralded by some as their Game of the Year, has seen early Japanese sales outpace those achieved by Ocarina of Time 3D.

Siliconera have compared sales data provided by Media Create, noting that A Link Between World sales have hit 297,215 copies in Nintendo’s home country, selling 96.84% of stock shipped to retailers.

Nintendo shipped 600,000 copies of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks back in 2009, although only saw sell through of just under half of this. That lead to retailers throwing it toward bargain bins over the next months to clear stock, reducing the game’s value and return investment. Such an error hasn’t been made this time around.

In comparison, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D shifted approximately 163,800 copies in the week’s following launch, which was 90.02 percent of copies shipped. However over time, Ocarina of Time 3D has been unable to match the success of either Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks so far.

The 3DS installed base is larger now, of course, but Nintendo will see the strength of sales and sell through as a notable positive.
