Perhaps today’s most unexpected announcement made during the Nintendo 3DS Direct, was a successor to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

Returning to the classic top-down view, the as yet unnamed sequel will invite players to return to the world of A Link to the Past within an entirely new storyline.

Nintendo are looking to make best use of the depth of vision offered by the steroscopic 3D of their handheld, footage showing Link springing himself between multiple levels of a dungeon.

It’s aiming to release exclusively on Nintendo 3DS later this year, and those wishing to see how it’s shaping up can visit the Nintendo eShop to view a 3D trailer.
