Impact Gameworks has announced that their 16-bit inspired roguelike dungeon crawler Tangledeep will soon see release on Nintendo Switch.

It pays tribute to the golden age of RPGs, taking inspiration from the lively visuals and music in games such as Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger. The game’s strategic, turn-based gameplay looks to combine the accessibility and polish of these games while drawing from a rich history of roguelikes like NetHack to Shiren the Wanderer and even modern dungeon crawlers such as Diablo.

With procedurally-generated maps, memorable characters, 12 unique job classes, hundreds of items to collect and use, and over 50 otherworldly monsters to battle and tame, Tangledeep promises a magical experience for adventurers of all skill levels.

The soundtrack has two styles: an authentic, retro SNES version and a modern version with orchestration and live-recorded instrumentalists. For that, developer Andrew “zircon” Aversa, Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3 composer Hiroki Kikuta, as well as Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Yooka-Laylee composer Grant Kirkhope have all penned music.

Tangledeep will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch in Q2 2018.
